Import Regulations in Cambodia

A foreigner may import household goods and personal effects into Cambodia duty free if he/she has diplomatic status or works for an NGO (non-governmental organization).

All other foreigners may import household goods and personal effects into Cambodia but they will be subject to duty. The amount of the duty varies and is often subject to negotiation with the customs inspectors.
A returning Khmer national may import household goods and personal effects into Cambodia, but they will be subject to duty.

Though the shipper does not have to be in Cambodia at the time of clearance, his/her company must be registered and they must issue a letter, on company letterhead, stating that he/she is coming to work for them in Cambodia.

For clearance of air freight shipments original passport is now required.

Required documents are as follows: Bill of Lading; passport copy – for inbound seafreight; Original Passport – for inbound airfreight; packing list – in English; letter from shipper's employer authorizing agent to import their shipment; letter from shipper's employer in Cambodia addressed to the customs chief requesting permission to import – there is a standard format for this and we will show the shipper how to make it; employer's stamp on all pages of the packing list.

Prohibited goods are the following: firearms, ammunition, narcotics, pornographic material.

Please do not include alcohol and medicine in personal effects shipments. If you do not, it can cause delays in clearance and result in additional charges to the customer.

Alcohol is subject to duty and taxes and can delay clearance of the shipment. If you decide to ship alcohol beverages, limit the amount to just a few bottles.
