Import Regulations in Bahrain

Bahrain is a member of the WTO and the Gulf Cooperation Council and, as such, applies all of the international agreements signed by these bodies.

Customs tariffs and barriers are fixed by the WTO. The majority of exports to Bahrain are subject to pre-shipment inspection. For importing alcoholic drinks, ammunition, weapons, pharmaceutical and artificial pearls, special import licenses are required.

Customs duties are applied at different rates according to class of products:

- 5% on food products, building materials, paper products, industrial raw materials, medicine and pharmaceuticals, physiotherapy equipment, fresh fruits.
- 10% on toys, musical instruments, all types of jewelry, leather products, electric household appliances, and computers.
- 20% on vehicles and other equipment used to transport passengers/goods.
- 70% on cigarettes and all tobacco products.
- 125% on alcoholic beverages.
