Import Regulations in Algeria

Algerian foreign trade system has undergone transformations that have completely opened up the country’s economy in terms of both imports and exports.

The abolition of the State monopoly on foreign trade has led to a decrease in the administrative procedures regulating trade (import and export program), the dismantling of the non-tariff protection system and the rehabilitation of tariff protection. However, foreign exchange market liberalization and the decline in the number and level of customs duties have also promoted the development of Algerian imports and variety of their supply sources.

The regulations prohibit the import of: used tires; plant products and materials genetically modified for reproduction; counterfeit goods; wine; manufactured tobacco except for licensed corporations; and pork.

Some prior authorizations may be claimed when importing products such as weapons, munitions, plant materials or animals.
